Impact of Erectile Dysfunction

Impotence impacts not only a man but also his partner as well.  As a result there is an emotional component to this common problem that impacts millions of American men.  Although ED is more common in older men, the problem occur in younger men as well.  This article will discuss some of the reversible causes of ED.

Diabetes

This condition affects almost every other vital organ and doesn’t spare a man’s sexual prowess too. Diabetes affects the blood vessels and nerves to different parts of the body, including the penis. Lack of blood supply makes it difficult for the organ to get or maintain an erection for too long.

Solution: By keeping your blood sugar level in the normal range a man can reduce the risk of ED.

Obesity

Obesity can make package shrink. Just as in diabetes, obesity can result in fat deposits in the many of the body’s blood vessels including the blood supply to the penis. In short, it restricts erection and can lead to ED.

Solution: Shed some pounds.  Your penis will thank you…and so will your partner.  Another benefit of weight loss is that it make a man’s penis appear longer.  Why?  Because the protruding abdomen is gone and the penis appears to grow by 1.5 inches.

Heart diseases

Heart diseases and impotence are connected. If blood circulation is compromised because of a cardiovascular issue or if you have narrowed arteries and blood vessels due to fat or cholesterol deposits, it is definitely going to make your performance in the bedroom suffer. Lack of proper blood supply in the penis is going to make ED inevitable. Also, ED may often occur before the heart disease manifests itself.

Solution: Get your cholesterol and triglycerides in the normal range.

Hypertension

Hypertension (high blood pressure) constricts the blood vessels and restricts the blood flow to the penis and can result in impotence

Solution:  Get your blood pressure under control.

Parkinson’s disease

Parkinson’s is a neurodegenerative disease that affects the motor movements and to some extent, even cognitive functions. This is also known as the old man’s disease.

Solution: Take medication to control the Parkinson’s disease

Peyronie’s disease

Peyronie’s disease is a benign condition that leads to curvature, deformity or shortening of an erect penis making erection painful and sexual intimacy difficult resulting in impotence

Solution: there are injections that can reduce the plaque in the penis.

Depression

Well, while we blame the lack of proper blood circulation as a prime cause of impotence, sometimes one’s mental health can also lead to sexual dysfunctions.

Solution: Talk to your doctor about a prescription for an anti-depressant medication.

Sleep disorders

Sleep apnea is known to cause a host of health conditions in men including impotence.

Solution: If your partner complains of your snoring, then you may have sleep apnea.  Treatment is very effective with a continuous positive airway pressure device (CPAP).

Bottom Line:  Impotence is a common condition and there are many reversible causes.  These should be considered and also speak to your doctor about using one of the medications for ED such as Viagra, Cialis, or Levitra.
